Chanhee Lim was born in Daejeon, South Korea, in 1985. He studied composition in Rostock, Dresden, and Basel with Peter Manfred Wolf, Mark Andre, José María Sánchez-Verdú, Johannes Kreidler, and Caspar Johannes Walter.

He attended masterclasses and received private lessons from Manos Tsangaris, Franz Martin Olbrisch, Michael Reudenbach, Clemens Gadenstätter, Unsuk Chin, Pierluigi Billone, Alberto Posadas, Carola Bauckholt, Colin Roche, Chaya Czernowin, and Younghi Pagh-Paan.

His works have been performed internationally in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Russia, France, Spain, Japan, and South Korea by ensembles such as Trio Sæitenwind, Studio for New Music Ensemble, Trio Sostenuto, Ensemble Chambre d’écoute, neophon ensemble, Ensemble Project21AND, NAMES Ensemble, snim vienna, Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble, Ensemble Delirium, Reheard Ensemble, Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart, Ensemble Phoenix Basel, and Ensemble Intercontemporain.

He has been selected for numerous calls for scores, festivals, and academies, including Koreanisches Musikfest in Germany, Project21AND Seoul, Sorimok Seoul, Phoenix Satellite Basel, Manifeste Paris, Crossroads Salzburg, snim vienna, Mixtur Festival Barcelona, Gnesin Contemporary Music Week, Darmstädter Ferienkurse, and the International Young Composers Academy in Tchaikovsky City. He received a Diploma at the International Jurgenson Competition and First Prize at the International Competition Donne in Musica, and was a recipient of the Nicati–de Luze scholarship. He also served as composer-in-residence at Künstlerhaus Eckernförde.

He currently teaches at Ewha Womans University, Hanyang University, and Chugye University for the Arts in South Korea. He is the artistic director of project ensemble morph, and his works are available through Delirium Edition.
